TSMC to add 7,000 tech jobs with new chip plant in Taiwan
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC) has announced 7,000 new technology jobs with the opening of a fabrication plant in Kaohsiung, southern Taiwan.
The facility will produce advanced 2-nanometer chips, with volume production starting in the second half of this year, according to executive vice president YP Chyn.
Despite growing investments in the US, TSMC reaffirmed its commitment to keeping Taiwan as its core operational base while expanding globally.
At the opening ceremony, Taiwan Premier Cho Jung-tai highlighted TSMC’s key role in the country’s economy. The company remains a crucial supplier for major firms like Nvidia, Apple, and Qualcomm.
The Kaohsiung plant is part of TSMC’s broader strategy to meet rising global demand, alongside 2-nanometer chip production at its headquarters.
Taiwan’s dominance in semiconductor manufacturing continues to raise concerns about over-reliance on the island.
Geopolitical factors, including China’s sovereignty claims and US efforts to localize chip production, add to the industry’s shifting landscape.
