TSMC shareholders hit eight-month high despite share price drop

TSMC’s number of shareholders reached 1.9 million this week, the highest level in nearly eight months, even as its share price fell 3.4% to NT$1,430 (US$45.4).

The shareholder count rose by 31,870 from the previous week, according to Taiwan Stock Exchange data, while the chipmaker’s market capitalization dropped by NT$1.3 trillion (US$41.2 billion) to NT$37.1 trillion (US$ 1.2 trillion).

Retail investors buying odd lots increased by 25,217 to about 1.4 million.

Investors holding 1,000 to 5,000 shares rose by 5,839 to 376,597, and those holding more than 1 million shares increased by 12 to 1,541.

TSMC remains the largest stock by weighting on Taiwan’s market.
