TSMC, Samsung use animals for eco branding
TSMC and Samsung Electronics have launched animal-related projects to address environmental concerns around semiconductor manufacturing.
TSMC, a chipmaker based in Taiwan, partnered with local beekeepers to produce honey from bees that gathered at its production sites.
The company restored vegetation around its factory after environmental surveys, leading to the arrival of bees and the creation of a commemorative honey gift.
Samsung Electronics, South Korea’s largest chipmaker, said otters have returned to rivers near its facilities, where it discharges treated water.
Otters are considered endangered in South Korea and play a key role in maintaining river ecosystems.
Both companies have highlighted these animal-focused efforts as part of broader campaigns to improve their environmental image, as chip factories are often seen as sources of pollution due to heavy chemical use.
