TSMC records second-lowest monthly sales in 2025

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC) reported consolidated sales of NT$263.7 billion (US$9 billion) for June 2025.

This amount is the second-lowest monthly revenue recorded by the company this year.

June 2025 revenue rose 26.9% year-on-year but fell 17.7% from May 2025, remaining slightly above February’s NT$260 billion (US$8.9 billion).

TSMC recorded a quarterly revenue high of NT$933.8 billion (US$31.9 billion) in Q2 2025, driven by strong demand for its 3-nanometer and 5-nanometer AI-related chips.

In the first half of 2025, TSMC revenue reached NT$1.77 trillion (US$60.5 billion), up 40% year-on-year, and it reaffirmed a full-year USD growth forecast of 24% to 26%.

TSMC will announce its Q2 earnings and provide an outlook for Q3 and the remainder of the year on July 17, 2025.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Market dominance that creates industry immunity

TSMC’s near-monopoly in advanced semiconductor manufacturing gives it remarkable resilience against market fluctuations, as evidenced by its continued growth despite monthly revenue swings.

The company controls 64.9% of the global foundry market as of Q3 2024, more than seven times the share of its nearest competitor Samsung at just 9.3% 1.

This dominance allows TSMC to maintain a 41.69% profit margin and 31.64% return on equity despite external pressures like potential US tariffs 2.

Monthly fluctuations, like June’s 17.7% decline from May, become less concerning when viewed against broader trends. TSMC still delivered record quarterly revenue of NT$933.8 billion in Q2 2025, up 38.6% year-over-year 3.

The company’s scale and technology lead creates a virtuous cycle: higher profits enable greater R&D investment, which extends its technological advantages and attracts more customers.

2️⃣ AI chips driving the next semiconductor supercycle

TSMC’s financial results reflect the extraordinary demand for AI chips that’s reshaping the semiconductor industry’s growth trajectory.
