TSMC Q3 sales hit record, beating forecasts
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), a Taiwan-based contract chipmaker, said its third-quarter revenue rose 50% from a year earlier to a record T$1.49 trillion (US$46.71 billion), based on calculations published on October 8.
The figure beat the T$1.46 trillion forecast from analysts tracked by the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG), as demand for AI applications boosted sales.
TSMC, which supplies Nvidia and Apple, had forecast quarterly revenue of US$44.6 billion to US$45.8 billion.
The company gave no new outlook in its revenue statement. Its earnings report is scheduled for October 15.
To meet rising AI chip demand, TSMC is expanding outsourcing of a key chip-on-wafer-on-substrate (CoWoS) front-end step to outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) providers to raise throughput.
At the same time, the US export controls restrict China’s access to advanced AI chips, posing an ongoing regulatory risk for foundries that serve Chinese customers.
