TSMC installs equipment at first 2-nanometer chip plant
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC) has begun installing equipment at its first 2-nanometer (nm) semiconductor fabrication plant in Kaohsiung, southern Taiwan.
This development occurs six months earlier than scheduled and was announced during a ceremony attended by Kaohsiung’s mayor Chen Chi-mai.
The Kaohsiung facility is TSMC’s initial 2-nm fab, with production planned for 2025.
The chips are expected to be used in smartphones and high-performance computing, including AI systems.
In addition to Kaohsiung, TSMC is building another 2-nm line in Hsinchu, near the capital Taipei.
