TSMC eyes price increase for mature chip production

TSMC reportedly plans single-digit price increases for mature-process wafers for some circuit design customers. The terms will be finalized in the fourth quarter and are expected to take effect in January 2027.

The move would mark TSMC’s first mature-process price increase in more than three years, after earlier hikes of as much as 15% for advanced nodes including 3nm and 5nm.

Industry views and an unnamed chip design company source said AI demand is spreading beyond high-performance computing chips to mature-node products, such as power management integrated circuits and power devices.

TrendForce said this trend has helped foundries pass through price increases to customers. The source also said foundry, packaging, and testing costs have risen this year.
