TSMC eyes 6th straight record profit on AI chip demand

TSMC, or Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co, is expected to post a sixth straight quarter of record profit on October 15, as demand for AI chips and its advanced chip-packaging technology stays strong.

An LSEG SmartEstimate based on 16 analyst forecasts projects third-quarter net profit to rise 65% to T$746.3 billion (US$23.4 billion). The estimate gives greater weight to analysts with stronger track records.

TSMC, a supplier to Nvidia and Apple, reported record quarterly revenue last week.

In July, TSMC raised its 2026 capital spending forecast to US$60 billion-US$64 billion.

The company is also expanding in the US with a planned US$265 billion investment in Arizona. Overseas manufacturing costs could weigh on margins. US production costs are 2.4x higher than in Taiwan, while rising costs at the Arizona site have hurt profitability.
