TSMC drives Taiwan’s record investments in US, Japan
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) played a key role in driving Taiwan’s record outbound investments, which reached US$44.93 billion in 2024, a 90.57% increase from the previous year.
This figure surpassed the previous high of US$23.58 billion set in 2023.
A significant portion of the growth is attributed to TSMC, which received approval to increase its investments in the United States and Japan, totaling US$12.5 billion and US$52.62 billion, respectively.
Investments in countries targeted by Taiwan’s New Southbound Policy, including Singapore, Vietnam, and Malaysia, rose significantly to US$8.72 billion—a 57.42% increase from the previous year.
On the inbound investment side, Taiwan approved US$7.86 billion in direct foreign investments in 2024, a decline of 30.18% compared to the previous year.
