TSMC confident in CHIPS Act funding under Trump

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC) remains confident that US government funding for its projects will continue under President-elect Donald Trump.

This follows Trump’s criticisms of Taiwan’s role in the chip industry and his questioning of the CHIPS and Science Act.

The company is set to receive US$6.6 billion in subsidies under the CHIPS Act to build three semiconductor fabrication plants in Arizona.

TSMC CFO Wendell Huang told CNBC that funding will be disbursed as milestones are met, with US$1.5 billion already received in Q4 2024.

TSMC CEO C.C. Wei highlighted the company’s strong relationship with both the current and future US governments.
