TSMC to build $16.5b chip plant in central Taiwan

TSMC will begin construction of a new 1.4-nanometer chip fab in Taichung next quarter, according to Taiwan’s Central Taiwan Science Park Bureau.

The company, the world’s largest contract chipmaker, aims to start production at the facility in 2028 with its most advanced process technology.

The expected production value of the new fab is projected at up to NT$500 billion (US$16.5 billion), which is higher than previous estimates.

The plant is set to create around 4,500 jobs.
