Trump’s UAE chip deal delays frustrate Nvidia, US officials

A deal to supply Nvidia’s AI chips to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been delayed for nearly five months.

The agreement, announced in May 2025, includes at least US$1 billion in UAE investments in the US in exchange for the chips, but the funds have not yet been delivered.

Progress has slowed due to US national security concerns over the UAE’s ties to China, particularly through Abu Dhabi-based AI firm G42.

The US Commerce Department has pressed the UAE to finalize its investment before approving chip deliveries, fearing possible diversion to China.

Most chips are planned for US firms operating in the UAE, while Nvidia is also pursuing licenses to export to China.
