Trump’s tariff revisions may increase tech product prices

President Donald Trump’s upcoming tariff revisions could raise prices for technology products, including laptops, smartphones, and AI hardware.

The tariffs on imports from China, Canada, and Mexico are set to be announced on Feb. 1, and may significantly affect businesses and consumers.

The Consumer Technology Association (CTA) estimates that tariffs as high as 60% on Chinese imports could raise the price of laptops and tablets by up to 45%, video game consoles by 40%, and smartphones by 26%.

The average smartphone price could rise by U$213.

The electronics sector is particularly vulnerable, with Mexico becoming an important manufacturing hub and China remains the largest supplier of smartphones, video game consoles, and laptops.

Experts advise businesses to prepare for higher costs, though stockpiling or moving production may be limited by financial risks.
