Trump-backed crypto firm WLF to release stablecoin audit

World Liberty Financial (WLF), a cryptocurrency platform co-founded by United States President Donald Trump, plans to release an audit of its stablecoin soon.

Co-founder Zak Folkman announced this during an interview at the Permissionless conference in Brooklyn, New York, on June 25, 2025.

Folkman indicated that the platform’s governance token, WLFI, may soon become tradable.

However, specific details were not disclosed.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Trump’s rapid crypto pivot mirrors broader regulatory shifts

Trump’s embrace of cryptocurrency through World Liberty Financial represents a dramatic policy reversal from his previous stance. As president in 2019, Trump tweeted that he was “not a fan of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies,” yet his administration is now actively promoting crypto adoption 1.

This shift is reflected in concrete policy actions, including hosting a White House crypto summit advocating for reduced regulation and instructing the SEC to reconsider previous crypto enforcement actions 2.

The administration’s new crypto-friendly approach has translated into market impacts, with Bitcoin prices surging above $109,400 following announcements about potential government purchases of digital assets 2.

This policy pivot comes amid growing bipartisan support for clearer crypto regulations, with proposed legislation like the STABLE and GENIUS Acts specifically addressing stablecoin frameworks 3.

2️⃣ Governance tokens raise unique ethical questions in political contexts

The WLFI governance token follows established patterns in decentralized finance, where such tokens typically grant voting rights on protocol changes and align user interests with project success 4.

However, World Liberty Financial’s model creates ethical questions when tied to a sitting president, as governance tokens can influence project valuation and potentially create conflicts between public duty and private gain 5.

These concerns prompted Senator Adam Schiff to introduce the COIN Act specifically to restrict public officials from engaging in cryptocurrency activities that could create financial conflicts of interest 5.

The ethical complexity increases when considering that governance tokens like WLFI often face challenges such as power concentration among a small group of holders and low voter participation, potentially amplifying concerns about influence and control 6.
