Trump, Xi set to discuss TikTok deal on September 19
United States Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has said that President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are set to discuss TikTok’s deal on September 19, 2025.
Bessent also said both countries have reached a framework agreement on the future of the platform.
He added that the commercial terms were settled between private parties.
The agreement comes as the Trump administration faces a September 17 deadline to force a divestiture of TikTok’s US business or shut down the app.
Last year, the US Congress passed a law barring app stores from distributing TikTok in the country, citing concerns over foreign control.
Bessent noted that the framework could allow for US-controlled ownership of TikTok.
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick previously said TikTok could be banned for US users if more autonomy was not granted.
The Trump administration has issued multiple executive orders extending deadlines for a deal involving TikTok, which is owned by China-based ByteDance.
