Trump seeks Supreme Court delay on TikTok divestment law

United States President-elect Donald Trump has requested the US Supreme Court to delay enforcing a law requiring TikTok’s Chinese owner, ByteDance, to sell the app to an American company or face a ban.

Trump said his incoming administration needs time for a political resolution.

Congress had mandated ByteDance to divest TikTok by January 19, 2025, but Trump’s lawyer said the president-elect takes no stance on the law’s merits.

The Supreme Court will hear the case on January 10, 2025.
