United States President Donald Trump has appointed Mark Uyeda, a current Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) commissioner, as the interim chair of the agency.

Uyeda, a Republican, will serve in this role until a permanent chair is confirmed.

Uyeda has expressed concerns regarding the SEC’s regulation of the cryptocurrency sector under former Chair Gary Gensler.

He criticized the lack of clarity in some enforcement actions.

Before his role at the SEC, Uyeda served as securities counsel to former Senator Pat Toomey.

He also provided advice to former SEC Commissioners Michael Piwowar and Paul Atkins.
