Trump Media to merge with US fusion startup TAE in $6b deal

Trump Media & Technology Group announced a US$6 billion all-stock merger with TAE Technologies, a California-based fusion energy company.

The deal, revealed on December 18, will see both firms’ shareholders each own about 50% of the combined company after it closes in mid-2026.

Trump Media plans to provide TAE up to US$300 million in cash during the merger process.

The new entity intends to start building what it claims will be the world’s first utility-scale fusion power plant in 2026.

Fusion energy aims to replicate the process powering the sun but has not yet produced a commercially viable reactor.

The merger follows recent meetings between fusion industry leaders and the US Energy Department about potential government support.
