Trump imposes 32% tariff on Taiwan to address trade gap
US President Donald Trump announced new tariffs on imports from several trading partners, including a 32% tariff on goods from Taiwan.
This is part of a broader “reciprocal tariffs” policy, revealed during an event in the Rose Garden on Apr. 2.
The tariffs will be implemented in two phases. A 10% tax on imports from all countries will begin on Apr. 5. Higher rates for specific countries, such as China (34%), Japan (24%), and Vietnam (46%), will take effect on Apr. 9.
The policy aims to reduce trade imbalances and boost domestic manufacturing.
Economists are concerned about the potential risks, including a trade war, higher inflation, and disruptions to global trade networks.
