Trump considered Nvidia breakup before being told itβs hard
At the βWinning the AI Raceβ summit in Washington, DC, on July 23, President Donald Trump said he considered breaking up Nvidia to boost competition in the AI chip market.
He ultimately decided against it after aides informed him that a breakup would be βvery hardβ due to Nvidiaβs strong lead.
βI figured we could go in and we could sort of break them up a little bitβ¦ and I found out itβs not easy in that business,β Trump said.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang attended the summit, but the company declined to comment.
During the event, Trump also introduced an AI Action Plan to reduce regulatory barriers and support the AI industry.
He announced that Nvidia would be allowed to resume selling its H20 AI chips to China, reversing an earlier freeze.
