TPG to acquire Australian SaaS firm Infomedia for $421m

TPG’s Asia-focused private equity unit has agreed to acquire Infomedia, an Australia-based software as a service (SaaS) provider for the automotive sector, for A$651 million (US$421 million).

Under the deal, Infomedia shareholders will receive A$1.72 (US$1.17) per share, representing a premium of over 30% compared to the previous day’s closing price.

The offer is similar to a bid made for the company by US-based firms in 2022.

The transaction values Infomedia at an enterprise value of A$579 million (US$393 million).

Infomedia counts global carmakers such as BMW, Audi, and Cadillac as customers.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Established automotive software platforms command premium valuations in growing market

TPG’s willingness to pay a 30%+ premium for Infomedia reflects the strategic value of proven automotive software platforms with deep industry penetration.

The A$1.72 per share offer sits close to what US suitors proposed in 2022, demonstrating consistent valuation recognition for Infomedia’s established market position1.

This premium makes sense given Infomedia’s impressive scale: 35+ years of experience serving over 250,000 users across 186 countries, with relationships spanning 50 OEM brands including major players like BMW, Audi, and Cadillac2.

The valuation is further justified by the automotive SaaS market’s robust growth trajectory, expanding from $8.38 billion in 2023 toward a projected $21.71 billion by 2030 at a 17.2% compound annual growth rate1.

For private equity firms, acquiring companies with this level of market penetration provides immediate access to recurring revenue streams that would take years to build organically.

2️⃣ Private equity targets automotive software for operational efficiency gains and recurring revenue

TPG’s acquisition strategy demonstrates how private equity firms are increasingly focusing on automotive software companies that can deliver both operational improvements and predictable cash flows.

Infomedia’s track record of operational optimization—including a 40% reduction in cloud costs through performance monitoring tools—shows the type of efficiency gains that attract PE investors3.
