Toyota, Subaru to co-develop EVs for Japan, US, EU by 2026

Toyota and Subaru are joining forces to develop an EV slated for release in Japan, the United States, and Europe by 2026.

This partnership seeks to improve production efficiency and cut costs throughout the EV development.

Sources reveal that Subaru’s Yajima plant in Gunma Prefecture will initiate production of the new SUV in January 2026, aiming to achieve a monthly output of 15,000 to 20,000 units.

This initiative is built on previous joint ventures, notably the development of electric SUVs—the Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra—which debuted in May 2022.
