Toyota Motor Corporation has announced a US$500 million investment in Joby Aviation, a California-based electric taxi startup, following a nearly seven-year partnership between the two sides.

The investment will be distributed in two equal tranches, subject to regulatory approvals.

Following this funding, Toyota’s total investment in Joby will reach approximately US$894 million, with the first tranche expected to close later this year and the second in 2025.
