Tinder owner Match Group cuts COO role

Match Group, owner of Tinder, will eliminate the chief operating officer role and Hesam Hosseini will leave after 18 years with the company.

Hosseini had been promoted to COO on April 1, 2025, and continued to hold his prior role as CEO of Evergreen & Emerging Brands.

The change comes under CEO Spencer Rascoff, who joined Match Group last year, after earlier leadership shifts including the exit of Gary Swidler, president, and cost-cutting layoffs aimed at saving US$100 million a year.

Hosseini’s employment agreement showed a US$635,000 base salary, a discretionary bonus, and other benefits, with a one-year term set to auto-renew on April 1, 2026 unless terminated earlier.

Match Group reported Q1 revenue of US$878 million and earnings per share of US$0.83, beating estimates, but guided its forecast for the year ahead to US$3.4–3.5 billion, below analyst expectations, and said it will roll out more AI features for Tinder.

Tinder plans a product event this month as the dating-app sector faces falling engagement among Gen Z and a shift toward in-person experiences.
