Tinder introduces AI-driven in-app game to attract Gen Z
Dating app Tinder has introduced an AI-driven in-app game named “The Game Game” for iOS users in the United States.
This feature, available for a limited time, allows users to engage with chatbots in romantic comedy scenarios.
The game uses OpenAI’s GPT-4 models to simulate exaggerated meet-cute situations, such as a mix-up at an airport baggage claim.
Players interact with the chatbot and earn points based on their responses. Each session is limited to three minutes, and users are allowed up to five plays per day.
Tinder said “The Game Game” is an experiment and not meant to replace human interaction. Safeguards, including OpenAI’s moderation technology, have been implemented to ensure conversations remain appropriate and adhere to community guidelines.
Tinder’s VP of product, growth, and revenue Hillary Paine said the game aims to provide a space for users to practice conversations and build confidence. User feedback will determine if the feature will be permanently integrated into the app.
This initiative aligns with Tinder’s strategy to attract Gen Z users, who make up about half of its user base.
The company has faced challenges in reversing a decline in subscriber numbers since 2023. It has projected a resumption of brand revenue growth by 2027.
