TikTok’s faces uncertainty as deadline approaches on Apr. 5
TikTok is approaching a critical deadline on Apr. 5, which could impact its future in the United States.
Under a national security law, its parent company ByteDance must divest TikTok’s US operations, a mandate established by former President Joe Biden.
The app narrowly avoided a ban after an extension in January, but it has not updated creators or brands about its future.
In response to the uncertainty, creators like Gianna Christine, who has 2.7 million followers, are diversifying their presence on platforms such as Snapchat and YouTube. “You never know what will happen,” Christine said.
During his 2024 presidential campaign, President Donald Trump expressed optimism about finalizing a deal that would allow TikTok to continue operating in the US. He said he is “pretty certain” an agreement will be reached before the April deadline.
TikTok has continued normal operations despite the uncertainty.
Marketing firm Meltwater confirmed its collaboration with the platform, although its tech chief, Aditya Jami, mentioned that their TikTok contacts seem unclear about the app’s future.
Scheduled posts on TikTok have decreased, while posts on Instagram have increased, indicating a shift toward platforms viewed as more stable.
