TikTok Shop outperformed Shein and Temu in US sales in January 2025.

Sales through TikTok Shop increased by 153%, while Shein and Temu reported growths of 26% and 28%, respectively.

The in-app shopping feature, launched in 2023, has particularly thrived in transactions above US$25, where Shein previously led.

TikTok Shop saw a 16 percentage point year-on-year growth in this category, while Temu’s under-US$25 category grew by 7 percentage points.

Despite this success, TikTok Shop faces uncertainties in the US.

These include the threat of a ban if ByteDance does not divest its American operations and potential tariffs, such as a proposed 10% levy on Chinese exports.

Shein, losing market share to TikTok Shop, is also considering a reduced valuation of around US$30 billion ahead of a possible London IPO.
