Chinese authorities have warned Kuaishou Technology, the operator of the widely used short video app, for not meeting content moderation and child protection standards.

The Beijing company’s actions allegedly violate China’s cybersecurity law.

The National Cybersecurity Information Center issued a notice to TikTok’s rival, demanding improvements in protecting youths and removing illegal content. The notice also requires the closure of unauthorized accounts.

Kuaishou has yet to respond to inquiries outside normal business hours.

The warning is part of China’s ongoing effort to tighten control over minors’ digital activities.

In August 2023, the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) suggested new rules to curb internet addiction and instill socialist values in younger users.
