ByteDance will discontinue its TikTok Music streaming service in November 2024.

Launched in July 2023 in Indonesia and Brazil, the service aimed to strengthen TikTok’s position in music streaming.

Ole Obermann, the platform’s global head of music business development, said this shutdown is part of a strategic shift.

The closure of TikTok Music follows several challenges in the U.S. music industry, including a royalty dispute earlier this year with Universal Music Group that resulted in the removal of its music library from the platform.

Initially branded as Resso, TikTok Music planned to expand into markets such as Singapore, Australia, and Mexico, but faced a ban in India.
