TikTok said to lay off SG trust and safety team
TikTok laid off employees from its trust and safety team in Singapore on Feb. 20, according to sources.
At least a dozen employees received termination notices, with some losing access to company systems within an hour.
These layoffs are part of broader cuts impacting TikTok’s trust and safety teams across the Asia-Pacific, Europe, and the United States.
An internal email indicated that the decision followed “months of careful consideration.”
Globally, TikTok employs over 40,000 professionals in trust and safety, according to CEO Chew Shou Zi’s testimony before the United States Senate Judiciary Committee in January 2024.
The precise number of Singapore employees affected remains unclear, as does the extent of layoffs in other departments.
TikTok has not provided an official comment regarding this matter.
This move follows significant workforce reductions in 2024, including layoffs in May and October that impacted roles worldwide, such as cuts to Malaysian staff.
