TikTok to invest over $37b in Brazil data center

TikTok plans to invest over US$37 billion to build a data center in Brazil, marking its first such project in Latin America.

The company will work with Omnia, a data center developer, and Casa dos Ventos, a Brazilian renewable energy provider, to construct the facility in Ceará, near the port of Pecém.

According to TikTok’s local public policy head, Monica Guise, the data center will be powered entirely by wind energy.

Brazil’s infrastructure, including access to renewable energy and submarine cable connections near Fortaleza, has made it a key location for data center investments.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

ByteDance, TikTok’s parent, plans over $37B through 2046 with a phased build

  • That ~$37–38 billion plan spans phases, not an upfront check 1. TikTok maps over R$ 200 bilhões, with R$ 108 bilhões for equipment through 2035, plus upgrades from 2036 to 2046 23.
  • Phase one targets 200 MW of IT load with about 300 MW site power by 2027, funded at roughly R$ 50 bilhões 4. Execution depends on stable rules, new energy delivery, ByteDance’s long game in a new region.
  • Casa dos Ventos will build dedicated wind and solar plants 5. A closed-loop system recycles water, using about 30 cubic meters per day on site with roughly 10% for cooling 32. Renewables must meet that load reliably.

Pecém’s five approved data centers open supply routes for vendors

  • Beyond ByteDance, Pecém has four more approved builds that total over R$ 450 bilhões 3. Together they could bring about R$ 80 bilhões a year in export services 3 and steady demand for fiber, power gear, construction.
  • Pecém plugs into international submarine cables 3 and uses the Zona de Processamento de Exportação (ZPE) regime, with possible federal perks under review (ReData) 2. Vendors of cross-connects, cooling systems, backup power can target this cluster with 95,000 direct plus indirect jobs across Exportdata’s four builds 3.
  • Staggered timing gives entry points, with ByteDance live in 2027 4 and Exportdata in 2027–2032 3. Early movers can lock long contracts. Omnia is developer of ByteDance’s Ceará campus and weighs expansion to Chile, Mexico, Colombia 3.
