US tightens AI chip exports, targets China
The US announced new regulations on Monday, tightening the export of AI chips and technology.
The move aims to maintain US leadership in the AI sector by imposing export caps on around 120 countries, with exemptions for 18 allied nations, including Japan, the UK, and the Netherlands.
These updated rules limit access to advanced computing technology for countries like China, Russia, Iran, North Korea, and include licensing requirements for advanced graphics processing units (GPUs) used in AI training
These measures will take effect in 120 days.
