Ticket resale firm StubHub files for New York IPO
StubHub, an online ticket resale marketplace, has filed for an IPO on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol “STUB” after delaying plans due to unfavorable market conditions.
The company reported a net loss of US$2.8 million on US$1.77 billion in revenue for 2024, a sharp contrast to its US$405 million profit on US$1.37 billion in revenue in 2023.
Founded in 2000, StubHub was acquired by eBay in 2007 for US$310 million and later bought back by co-founder Eric Baker in 2020 for $US4 billion through Viagogo.
In 2023, over 40 million tickets were sold on its platform by about 1 million sellers. Competitors include Vivid Seats, which went public in 2021, and Live Nation.
The IPO market has been sluggish since late 2021 due to rising interest rates and inflation but is showing signs of recovery with filings from Klarna and CoreWeave.
Citigroup and Wells Fargo are reportedly involved in StubHub’s public listing.
