Thrive Capital buys $215m stake in Amazon
New York-based venture firm Thrive Capital, led by Joshua Kushner, disclosed in a regulatory filing on August 14 that it bought roughly US$215 million worth of Amazon shares, extending its push into public-market investing.
The stake gives Thrive exposure to a company benefiting from AI, including agentic AI shopping tools and cloud computing infrastructure for other businesses.
Earlier this month, Amazon surpassed a US$3 trillion valuation for the first time, becoming only the fifth company to reach that milestone.
Earlier this year, Thrive told shareholders that it had invested about US$100 million in Shopify.
In a letter sent to limited partners earlier this week, Kushner said a better understanding of public markets can strengthen the firm’s judgment in private markets.
Thrive is best known for early investments in SpaceX, Stripe, and OpenAI.
Its public holdings also include Figma, StubHub, and Oscar Health, which Kushner co-founded and incubated.
