Thrive Capital, A16z to lead Anduril’s $4b round: report
Thrive Capital and Andreessen Horowitz are co-leading a fundraising round in which Anduril is seeking to raise about US$4 billion, a move that would value the Costa Mesa, California-based defense-tech startup at about US$60 billion, two people familiar with the matter told Bloomberg.
The report said Anduril had previously been talking with investors about raising as much as US$8 billion.
Representatives for Andreessen Horowitz and Anduril did not immediately respond to requests for comment, and a spokesperson for Thrive declined to comment.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Anduril’s reported $60 billion valuation tracks fast growth and an unusual approach
- This valuation would almost double the $30.5 billion figure set after a $2.5 billion funding round in June 2025 1.
- Anduril funds its own research and development, then sells finished products. Venture capitalists often prefer this to “cost-plus” government contracts 2.
- The approach has landed large awards, including a 10-year U.S. Special Operations Command deal worth up to $967.6 million 3.
- It is also expanding production capacity, with a large drone factory in Ohio aimed at turning software and hardware plans into mass-built systems 4.
New defense contractors are changing how wars get fought and how investors deploy money
- Anduril’s funding adds to a venture capital shift, with large firms treating defense technology as a mainstream bet after years of Silicon Valley hesitation about military work 2.
- This software-led, fast-build model takes aim at long-running dominance from contractors like Lockheed Martin, which relies on slower hardware programs that require heavy capital 5.
- Momentum from firms like Anduril is moving modern warfare toward swarms of autonomous, AI-guided systems rather than smaller numbers of costly conventional platforms 5.
- A future IPO could place Anduril in a new bucket, priced like a high-growth tech company instead of a standard defense contractor, which could pull new pools of capital into the sector 5.
