Thousands of Indonesian drivers to protest for bill, fee cap
Thousands of online motorcycle taxi drivers and couriers in Jakarta plan to protest on September 17, 2025, according to the Online Ojek Drivers Association (Garda Indonesia).
The association is calling for the inclusion of an online transportation bill in the 2025-2026 legislative agenda, a cap on platform commissions at 10%, regulation of delivery tariffs, an audit of a 5% platform fee, and the removal of several platform programs.
The group said 2,000 to 5,000 participants, including both two-wheel and four-wheel drivers, will join the demonstration, marking National Transportation Day.
Protests are scheduled at the parliament building, the Presidential Palace, and the Ministry of Transportation offices, with participants gathering at Garda Indonesia’s headquarters at 9 a.m.
Garda Indonesia urged Jakarta residents to use alternative transportation, warning that many online drivers may turn off their apps in solidarity with the protest.
They are also demanding the dismissal of the current transport minister and an investigation into the August 28 death of a driver.
