Thailand’s SEC moves to block Bitget over unlicensed trading

Thailand’s Securities and Exchange Commission has filed a criminal complaint against BG Limited, the operator of crypto exchange Bitget, and asked authorities to block Bitget’s website and app starting December 5.

The regulator alleges BG Limited offered trading services in Thailand without a license from 2022 to 2025.

The regulator said Bitget charged trading fees and targeted Thai users through a Thai-language website that displayed prices in baht. It urged users to make arrangements for assets held on the platform before access restrictions begin.

Thailand requires digital asset exchanges, brokers, and dealers to be licensed.

The case comes as Bitget seeks approval to acquire GMO-Z.com, a licensed Thai crypto exchange, through Bitget-linked BTGT Management (Thailand). The deal could give Bitget a licensed route into the market.

It also fits a wider enforcement push after the Securities and Exchange Commission warned that access restrictions would hit unlicensed offshore platforms including Bybit and CoinEx.
