Thailand seeks chip investments amid US-China trade war
Thailand plans to finalize an initial draft of its semiconductor strategy within 90 days, according to Narit Therdsteerasukdi, secretary-general of the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI).
The strategy aims to attract new investments through an industry roadmap developed with consultancy support.
The country aims for 500 billion baht (US$15 billion) in new semiconductor investments by 2029, focusing on power electronics related to electric vehicles, data centers, and energy storage systems.
The semiconductor industry has experienced disruptions amid rising geopolitical tensions between the United States and China.
Trade disputes have shifted some supply chains to Southeast Asia, particularly following the announcement by President Donald Trump of a 10% tariff on Chinese imports.
