Ecommerce and retail associations are calling for tougher rules on cheap and low-quality products from China, citing the potential harm to local SMEs and consumers.

The organizations also want the government to consider imposing corporate taxes on online Chinese sellers and requiring social media platforms with online shopping features to seek an ecommerce license.

This comes as TikTok Shop gains popularity in the country.
