Thailand BOI secures $4.1b in EV supply chain investment
Thailand’s Board of Investment (BOI), the government agency that promotes investment, said on July 3 it had secured more than US$4.1 billion in electric-vehicle supply-chain investment pledges across 198 projects as automakers shift production to Southeast Asia and toward cleaner vehicles.
The projects cover battery electric vehicles, hybrids, batteries, components, and charging infrastructure.
The BOI said electrified vehicles accounted for more than 40% of new vehicle registrations in Thailand in 2025.
It also said the investments would support more than 22,900 charging stations, including more than 10,000 fast chargers, while related manufacturing investments have created more than 16,000 jobs.
This continues a broader rise in investment. The BOI said total promotion applications rose 47% to 465 billion baht (US$14 billion) in the first eight months of 2023 after Thailand made EVs a priority sector.
Thailand has also rolled out subsidies, tariff cuts, and lower excise taxes under its BEV 3.0 and 3.5 programs, with benefits tied to local assembly and battery production.
