Tether names ex-Google exec as chief business officer

Tether has named Benjamin Habbel as its new chief business officer as the company aims to expand investments beyond digital assets.

Habbel previously led Limestone Capital, a private equity firm, and held senior roles at Google.

He will oversee Tether’s growth strategy, finance, investment, and portfolio development.

Tether, based in El Salvador, is known for its USDT stablecoin, which tracks the US dollar and has a market capitalization of about US$173 billion, according to CoinGecko.

The company’s portfolio includes sectors such as AI, telecommunications, bitcoin mining, energy, cloud computing, and real estate.

In 2024, Tether invested US$200 million for a majority stake in US-based brain implant firm Blackrock Neurotech.
