Tesla, SpaceX chip project moves forward with land buys
WIT Tech LLC, a Wyoming company linked to Elon Musk associates, has bought at least six parcels totalling more than 6,000 acres in Grimes County, about 60 miles northwest of Houston, according to property records.
A public notice filed in Grimes County last month said the semiconductor plant would cost at least US$55 billion, and total capital investment could rise to US$119 billion in later phases.
Musk said in March the project would involve SpaceX, Tesla, and xAI.
The link to Musk’s associates comes from WIT Tech’s latest Wyoming annual report, which Jared Birchall, a longtime Musk associate, signed. Texas real estate filings also list James Burnham, xAI’s general counsel, as an authorised representative for WIT Tech.
Grimes County officials will discuss economic development negotiations with SpaceX on June 2, 2026. On June 3, they will hold a public hearing on a proposed reinvestment zone, a property tax abatement agreement, and an economic development agreement.
The county website lists hearings on a SpaceX tax abatement and reinvestment zone, and references proposed zone maps tied to the submitted parcel numbers.
