Tesla’s sales in Germany plunge 60% in June 2025

Tesla’s sales in Germany fell by 60% in June compared to the same month last year, according to data from the German road traffic agency KBA.

The company sold 1,860 cars during June, a decline from previous sales levels.

In the first half of 2025, Tesla’s total sales in Germany decreased by 58.2% year-over-year, totaling 8,890 units.

This decline occurs alongside a general increase of 8.6% in overall sales of battery electric vehicles in Germany.

This underscores Tesla’s challenges in maintaining its market share. The automaker has also experienced sales declines in other European markets.

Sales have dropped for six consecutive months in countries including France, Sweden, Denmark, and Italy.

Analysts attribute these declines to heightened competition from newer models offered by rival manufacturers. They also point to potential impacts on Tesla’s brand perception.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Tesla’s dramatic market share erosion amid EV market growth

Tesla’s sales decline in Germany represents a remarkable reversal in a growing EV market, highlighting a significant shift in consumer preferences.

While Tesla’s sales dropped by 60% in June, the overall German EV market grew by 43% in early 2025, reaching 158,000 units 1.

This pattern isn’t limited to a single month. BEV registrations surged by 54% in April 2025 to 45,535 units (18.8% market share), marking the strongest month for electric cars since the end of government subsidies in December 2023 2.

Tesla’s slump contrasts sharply with the broader market’s health, indicating this isn’t an industry-wide issue but rather a Tesla-specific challenge as competitors offer newer models with competitive features.

The reversal is particularly notable considering Tesla’s historical leadership position in the European EV market, demonstrating how quickly market dynamics can shift in emerging sectors.
