Tesla’s full self-driving tech faces probe over traffic safety

The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is investigating Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) software after reports of cars running red lights or entering wrong lanes.

Over 50 such incidents were reported, including four that caused injuries.

The probe focuses on FSD, Tesla’s advanced driver-assistance feature, and follows an earlier investigation into crashes in low-visibility conditions in October 2024.

Tesla recently released an updated FSD version using data from its Austin, Texas, robotaxi pilot, while NHTSA monitors repeated red-light violations at specific locations in Maryland.

NHTSA opened a preliminary evaluation, which could lead to further regulatory action depending on the findings.
