Tesla, Xiaomi offer cheaper loans to lure Chinese EV buyers
Tesla has introduced low-interest, seven-year car loans in China to boost EV sales, prompting competitors like Xpeng and Xiaomi to follow with similar financing offers.
The loans feature an annual interest rate of 1.36 percent, allowing buyers to pay less than 2,000 yuan (US$288) monthly after an 80,000 yuan (US$11,530) down payment.
This marks the first time an automaker in China has offered a seven-year loan, replacing the previous five-year maximum, and the rate is below standard consumer loans of around 3 percent.
Xiaomi, which sold more SU7 sedans than Tesla’s Model 3 in 2025, also launched a seven-year loan at 1 percent interest.
