Tesla updates Robotaxi app terms ahead of San Francisco debut

Tesla has updated its terms of service for Robotaxi app users, signaling the launch of its paid ride service in San Francisco over the weekend.

The rides will use Tesla’s supervised Full Self-Driving (FSD) software and include safety drivers, in line with California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) regulations.

Outside California, the service will operate autonomously.

The California DMV confirmed Tesla has a permit to test with a safety driver but has not applied for a fully driverless permit. CPUC noted Tesla’s notification to expand rides to select public users.

Tesla’s VP of AI, Ashok Elluswamy, said they are working with regulators to eventually launch driverless rides.

Tesla declined to comment.
