Tesla tops S Korea imported passenger car market in H1

Tesla was the top imported passenger car brand in South Korea in the first half of 2026, taking a 30.5% share as new registrations rose 33.2% from a year earlier to 184,032 units, the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association said.

Tesla sold 56,139 vehicles, up 192% from a year earlier, overtaking BMW and Mercedes-Benz among imported brands.

BMW ranked second with a 21.3% share, followed by Mercedes-Benz at 16.2%. BYD, a China-based electric vehicle maker, ranked fourth with 6.3%.

In June, registrations of imported passenger cars rose 27.5% to 38,059, helped by strong demand for electric vehicles.

The Tesla Model Y Long Range was the best-selling imported model that month.

The ranking covers imported passenger car brands only, not South Korea’s overall auto market.
