Tesla, SpaceX merger discussed as Nasdaq listing nears
Elon Musk has discussed a possible merger between Tesla and SpaceX as the aerospace company moves toward a Nasdaq listing.
Musk also signaled that direction by backing a 2026 initial public offering report in December 2025.
The ties between Tesla and SpaceX already go beyond informal collaboration.
SpaceX, Musk’s US-based space and satellite internet company, confirmed a deal to acquire xAI earlier this year, and Tesla disclosed a US$2 billion investment in xAI shortly before that.
SpaceX’s IPO filing said its connectivity unit, mainly Starlink, generated US$11.39 billion last year, or 61% of total revenue.
The filing also said Starlink’s user base reached 10.3 million in the first quarter.
Separate estimates from Payload Research put SpaceX at US$13.1 billion in 2024 revenue, including US$4.2 billion from launches.
That suggests much of the company’s scale comes from satellite connectivity alongside its rocket business.
