Investigators are linking a Tesla Cybertruck explosion outside the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas on New Year’s Day to active-duty US Army soldier Matthew Livelsberger, who allegedly used genAI to seek information on explosives before the blast.

Authorities found Livelsberger’s phone contained a possible manifesto and emails, while surveillance footage showed him pouring fuel from his truck before the explosion.

Days prior, he queried ChatGPT about creating and detonating explosives and purchasing firearms legally.

OpenAI confirmed it is cooperating with law enforcement, emphasizing its models are designed to reject harmful requests.
