Tesla lines up $30b credit as AI spending accelerates

Tesla said in a September 29 regulatory filing that it entered into US$30 billion in credit agreements, including a US$20 billion delayed-draw term loan facility, as it prepared for record spending on AI compute infrastructure, solar cell manufacturing, a semiconductor fabrication project with SpaceX, and other expansion areas.

The package also includes a five-year revolving credit facility worth US$8 billion and a 364-day revolving credit facility worth US$2 billion.

These replace an undrawn US$5 billion revolving credit line due in January 2028.

Tesla said it had no borrowings outstanding under the new facilities as of September 29 and did not plan to draw on them in 2026.

Earlier this year, the company forecast capital expenditure of more than US$25 billion for 2026, after spending US$8.53 billion in 2025.

Analysts tracked by London Stock Exchange Group expect Tesla to post negative free cash flow of US$9.78 billion.

Moody’s rates Tesla Baa3 with a stable outlook, while S&P Global Ratings has a BBB rating on the company.
